Beaufort County shoppers may still be charged sales tax | News

BEAUFORT CO., SC (WTOC)- Beaufort County shoppers may still be getting charged a sales tax that has expired, the Island Packet reports.

The county chief financial officer says a few residents have called to complain about businesses charging the 1 percent transportation tax.

Consumers who are charged should return to the store and with the receipt to get that money back.

County leaders said they have reached out to the Chamber of Commerce to remind members to no longer charge the tax.
