Beaufort Boys and Girls Club opens thrift store
News

BEAUFORT, SC (WTOC)- With the Boys and Girls Club of Beaufort struggling financially, they've opened up a new thrift store at the old Teen Center to help make ends meet.

The new store is filled with all kinds of donations from the community.

"We have a wide variety of things," said Jane Truslow, thrift store manager. "Everything from bicycles and housewares to antiques and jewelry clothing."

Of course, they have much more. The hope is this merchandise will help fuel the club and all the children who attend.

"All proceeds go directly to the Boys and Girls Club, which they will use for their afterschool program and other programs they have going on," said Truslow.

The thrift store is an idea that board member Joe Mix came up with. He is passionate about the mission of the Boys and Girls Club and wants to make sure they're doing all they can to keep the doors open.

"These are tough times," said Mix. "The economy is bad and donations the club are difficult to get. This store will help make their budget and keep the programs running."

But they need the community's support to make it a success.

"It's amazing what somebody's item they don't necessarily care about could be a treasure for someone else," said Truslow.

They say donations big or small will make a big difference for the club.

The thrift store is located on Herrington Street in Beaufort.
