Annual Shrimp Festival this weekend at Waterfront Park

BEAUFORT, SC (WTOC) - It's time to celebrate one of your favorite Lowcountry cuisines. Don't miss the 18th annual Beaufort Shrimp Festival happening Oct. 5-6 at Waterfront Park in downtown Beaufort.

People from all over come out every year to enjoy fresh local shrimp at the 2-day festival. The event also features arts and crafts, a 5K Run, free live entertainment and of course recipes, tastings and lots of fun for the entire family to enjoy. If you can not eat shell fish, alternative foods will be available at the festival as well.

Festivities will kick off on Oct. 5 at 6 p.m.

The festival's popular 5K Run/Walk will step off on Oct. 6 at 8 a.m., and will be followed by the Popcorn Shrimp Run for ages 7 and under which will begin at 8:45 a.m. at the corner of Bay and Newcastle Streets. Both races require advanced registration. Click here to register for the 5K online now or here for the Popcorn Shrimp Run.

The Sea Island Rotary Club will host its 4th annual Charity Shrimp Race, where 5,000 rubber floating shrimp will be dropped in the Beaufort River. The Shrimp will float naturally with the tide towards a finish line, and the first 10 shrimp to cross the finish will share $5,000 in cash prizes and have a chance at winning the $1 Million Grand Prize. To adopt your shrimp, visit www.rotaryshrimprace.com.

Admission to the park is free. Come out and enjoy your favorite shrimp dish.
